Implantable Drugs and Devices Have Two Main Categories
Nov 08When it comes to injectable and implantable drugs and devices, they can fall broadly into two main categories, those which are medical and used to treat conditions, manage pain and improve peoples’ health and those which are cosmetic and used to alter people’s body shape or appearance for purely cosmetic reasons.
It can be argued that the latter group of injectable and implantable drugs and devices are actually damaging for young peoples’ health, as they often look up to celebrities in the media who have used such devices to enhance their appearance, and then try to live up to an unrealistic ideal. This can cause negative body image, low self-confidence and low-self-esteem, which is undoubtedly harmful to a young person’s opinion of themselves. Those in the media spotlight often see no harm in such devices, as it helps their career and they argue that it is a personal choice.
However for those with lifelong conditions such as diabetes, injectable and implantable drugs and devices can be life-saving and improve their quality of life considerably. They can also help in the treatment of psychiatric disorders, where compliance is an issue, as well as pain management and the palliative care of patients with terminal illnesses.
